SARAVANA SUBBIAN and ARUN SUBRAMANIAN Negative symptoms in schizophrenia are disabling and a source of distress for patients and carers. Multi-agency approaches are necessary for the management of negative symptoms. This paper presents a review of the clinical effectiveness of current neuroleptic and non-neuroleptic treatments, searching MEDLINE, EMBASE and PSYCHINFO (1995–2005). We identified the type of study, number of patients, response rate, and duration and limitations of the research.
